Lawrence University offers teacher certification at the middle through secondary level (grades 6 through 12). In addition to required education courses, all students seeking teacher certification must complete a major (or its equivalent) in the subject they plan to teach. Finally, all candidates for teacher certification complete a term of student teaching. Student-teaching assignments for public and private school semesters are contracted with local Fox Valley schools or the Associated Colleges of the Midwest Urban Education program in Chicago.

Students who want to teach art or foreign language (Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin, Russian, or Spanish) or music (choral, general, or instrumental) receive special-field certification for teaching early childhood through adolescence (K-12).
