The Center for Academic Success takes a holistic approach to help students thrive academically at Lawrence.


Thriving academically means considering academic abilities, success skills, and students’ lived experiences in the work we do with them. We believe that every student admitted to Lawrence can succeed at Lawrence. We are here to meet them where they are and to support them in maximizing their success in and out of the classroom.

Services provided by the CAS include:

  • Academic Coaching: Providing one-on-one support for students interested in strategies related to motivation, procrastination, goal setting, problem solving, and more
  • Academic Procedures:
    • Discussing course concerns and best academic options
    • Completing petition forms
    • Arranging an incomplete in a course (for those eligible who need extra time to finish a course because of an emergency at the end of the term)
    • Taking time off from or leaving Lawrence
    • Other academic concerns
  • Academic Skills Building: Providing one-on-one support for students interested in developing strategies related to time management, accountability, reading and note taking, test preparation, and organization
  • Multilingual Learning Resources and Support: Building and refining English skills in academic English for speakers of English as a second leanguage
  • Tutoring: Assisting students with writing, presentations and understanding course content
    • Courses & Workshops: Offering UNIC 117 Academic Well-Being: Success Theories in Practice and other courses and workshops that address and promote academic success

    All students are encouraged to take advantage of the CAS's resources and expertise to maximize their potential and success at Lawrence.

    Walk-In Hours

    **Please note that due to the winter storm, walk-in hours will not be taking place Wednesday, April 3. In lieu of walk-in hours, Dean Gray requests you make an appointment with her today via her Navigate scheduling link.

    Tutoring

    Lawrence students seeking tutoring support should look on their course syllabi and Canvas sites (or check with course instructors) for a list of available tutors. Students may contact these tutors directly to arrange for tutoring. To request a tutor, use the "Get Assistance" button in Navigate (Log into Navigate; Click on the “Get Assistance” button & follow prompts to request a tutor) or download the free Navigate Student app, available from the Apple and Google Play stores (Click on the “Appointments” icon in the app, then the “Schedule Appointment” option, & follow the prompts to request a tutor).

    Drop-in writing tutoring (first come, first served) is available during the academic year by the CAS (second floor, Mudd Library) at these days/times: Sun-Thurs: 1-11pm & Fri-Sat: 1-5pm

    Drop-in tutoring for 100- and 200- level MATH courses is available during the academic year by the CAS (second floor, Mudd Library) at these days/times: Mon-Fri: 10-11am and 3:30-4:30pm
